Measure empty mileage before changing the plan
For a defined period, divide empty miles by total miles and multiply by 100. For example, 120 empty miles in 400 total miles is 30% empty running. Use the same definition and reporting period when comparing results.
Then look at where vehicles repeatedly finish empty. Search for compatible freight near those destinations, share availability earlier and compare reload revenue with the extra cost. A reduction in empty mileage is useful only when the movement also works commercially and operationally.
